October 12, 2018 – Changes in the Recycling Market and What They Mean on Campus and at Home
The recycling market has changed dramatically in 2018. China, historically the world’s largest recycling importer, has placed strict limits on the volume and contamination levels of recyclables it will accept. Massasoit’s recycling diversion rate has dropped, and now items that could once be recycled on campus no longer can be. Some MA communities have had to stockpile recyclables without a place to send them while others have limited or stopped curbside recycling services altogether. Michelle Lee Guiney, Waste Management’s Total Recycling Program Manager, will explain these changes and their impacts on campus and in your community.
