Energy conservation is central to Massasoit’s commitment to sustainability and to the American College & University Presidents’ Climate Commitment. The college has made great strides to reduce its energy use.
In 2009, Massasoit undertook a comprehensive energy and water conservation project to substantially reduce water use, energy consumption, and costs. The project has resulted in a 40% reduction in energy consumption, expected to save the college $12 million over 20 years. Watch the video to learn more about this project.
Massasoit’s Brockton campus has solar photovolatic (PV) panels installed on the rooftops of five buildings — Liberal Arts, Science, Technology, Humanties, and Student Center. This 370 kW solar array generates more than 400,000 kWh of electricity each year, saving the college $55,000 to $60,000 annually.
